today i called N and asked if she wanted to go for a walk around the lake. we started at 11 am and finished the 3mi hike shortly after noon. we decided to go lunch at Viola's because i've always wanted to try their fish and chips. as it turns out the fish wasn't as good as the chips -- which were crispy even when they were cold. not satisfied enough i was about to order fried chicken but they said they only had chicken breast and why not just order dessert, said the owner. so we did. we shared french-pressed decaf coffee and a tiramisu which was very good. afterwards we went to the asian store and i bought sitaw, kalabasa, datu puti vinegar, chicharon, and sardines in a small jar.
it's been so long since i've done this with a girlfriend so when N asked: who is your best friend? i had to stop and think. i mentioned friends i used to feel very close to but not anymore. i thought of friends who have moved away and friends who have died. i thought of friends that i see occasionally. i thought of my sisters who are also my best friends. of course, i thought of Cal - he is the first one that came to mind. i told N that she is my friend. did she seem surprised? she said that for a Kapampangan, i am quiet, and that most of the Kapampangans she knows are loud. hhmmm, i haven't noticed. maybe i am a quiet person. i haven't thought of it much.
relishing this day of unwinding.
